Football Season Review

№16: FC Ingolstadt

After a season of turmoil, Ingolstadt are relegated to Liga 3 after losing in the relegation play-off. The club went through four managers in the campaign as they kept on losing at the start of the season. Tomas Oral gave them a chance of survival, but their defensive frailties were again visible as they fell short against Wehen. Ingolstadt had a nightmare start to the season as they leaked goals and only won one game before the winter break. Stefan Leitl and Alexander Nouri were both sacked in that period. After a slight upturn in form under Jens Keller, the Bavarian side nosedived again and returned to foot of the table and Keller was next to be axed. Oral returned to the club and made an instant improvement. They played with more confidence and striker Darío Lezcano was back amongst the goals. A five game unbeaten spell prevented automatic promotion. However, their season was summed up after losing from a winning position in the relegation play-off. Defensive mistakes, a lack of quality in midfield and a shortage of composure in the final third plagued them all campaign. A big rebuild is required over the summer to give the club a chance of competing in the third tier. They need to keep hold of Oral, who was the only bright light from a disappointing season.

Player of the Season: Dario Lezcano
