Football Season Review

№8: Jahn Regensburg

Regensburg strengthened their status in the second division after another solid season from the Bavarian outfit. Comfortably in mid-table for majority of the campaign, Achim Beierlorzer’s side scored plenty, but keeping a clean sheet was rare. Jahn flourish on their travels scoring five at Hamburg and Koln with their tactics on the counter working effectively. Adamyan poised their greatest threat on the left flanks with the Armenian international topping their goal and assist charts. Their style of football struggled to work at home as they found it difficult to break down defences. Plagued with too many draws, any hope of promotion was quickly diminished. A key statistic to Regensburg’s success under Beierlorzer is his settled squad. The bulk of the squad played over thirty times which bodes well for the long term future of the club. The emergence of on loan Salzburg defender Asger Sörensen has been noticeable this season and it was will important they can chase his signature. However, the club have sold Adamyan to Hoffenheim and also goalkeeper Philipp Pentke is off, so Beierlorzer needs to fill these voids. The club is built on stability so it’s important they sign the right players, but it is also key that they do not take their status in the division for granted.
