Football Season Review

№7: Heracles Almelo

A positive season for Heracles who improved on last year's position, from 10th to 7th, thus reaching the playoffs for a spot in Europa League. Unfortunately they arrived very tired at the crucial moment, lost the last three games of the regular season and were immediately eliminated by Utrecht losing both games without even managing to score a single goal, while conceding 5. Their path in Eredivisie was quite regular, always remained between the middle of the table and the playoffs, at a certain point also giving reason to hope to get into the top four. However their performance was rather unpredictable, capable of defeating the champions of Ajax as well as losing with relegated teams like Excelsior. After all it was not easy to foresee a positive outcome considering the three serious knee injuries that have deprived them for most of the season by Jeff Hardeveld, Sebastien Jakubiak and especially captain Robin Propper. In addition, some lighter injuries have often forced coach Frank Wormuth to change the starting eleven and the system of play, alternating between 4-3-3 and 4-2-3-1. As for KNVB cup their path ended very soon as they were kicked off by Vitesse already in the second round back in October. Regarding single players, Tim Breukers at the back is always been a guarantee. Very good the season of Brandley Kuwas and Swedish forward Kristoffer Peterson, who reached his ever top with 13 goals, while outstanding was the performance of Spanish Adrian Dalmau, who was the 3rd best scorer of the league with 19 goals. On the other side was expected more by experienced midfielder Alexander Merkel and in general by the defense that conceded 68 goals in 34 games, that means 2 per match.

Player of the Season: Adrian Dalmau
