Football Season Review

№10: Rochdale

Rochdale are coming from another season that they will view as a success despite failing to qualify for the play-offs. Keith Hill's men are battling with several clubs with far superior budgets, and the task put in front of their manager ahead of every season is to keep them up, rather than battle for promotion. The Dale were once again able to stay clear of danger throughout the season and actually managed to keep their play-off hopes alive until pretty late in the campaign. They achieved all this by playing what footballing purists would describe as "proper football" and without dipping into the loan market extensively. Hill has once again managed to get the most out of the resources that he had at his disposal and what makes his side's exploits even more impressive is the fact that Rochdale had no real standout performers this time around, with some of their key players, such as Peter Vicenti and Ian Henderson, actually struggling for form during certain parts of the campaign. As things stand with the Dale at the moment, their manager is by far the most important person in the club and their main task during the upcoming summer will be to keep hold of him.
