Football Season Review

№22: Swindon Town

Swindon are another club whose men in charge have made a number of eyebrow-raising decisions over the recent years, with the Robins going through a thoroughly disappointing season that ended in their relegation. Heavily reliant on the loan market, the Robins did not start the season with as many loanees this time around and their boss Luke Williams, who was hardly a fan favourite to begin with, struggled early on, with the club making the controversial decision to appoint former Tottenham and Aston Villa manager Tim Sherwood as their sporting director, with the controversial thing about the decision being that Sherwood actually managed the team for a period, with Williams still officially the manager. Following a run of poor results and a couple of public outbursts, Sherwood distanced himself from the footballing part of things and it is believed that the team selections and tactics in the second half of the season were Williams's only. Unfortunately for the Robins, none of the managerial combinations they tried out proved to have been good enough, as their side did have glimpses of promise, but those were few and far between and they ended up having their relegation confirmed with three games of the season left. Williams has already left the club and the Robins have a summer of rebuilding ahead of them.
