Adelaide sneaked into the play-offs last term, finished only 2 points above 7th place. The post-season was short though. Lost 0-3 in the elimination final vs Brisbane Roar. All of last season the main issues were in attack. Scored just 24 goals in 21 matches. Only 3 teams, none of them made the playoffs, scored fewer goals. The early departure of star striker Worts seriously impacted the forward actions last season. The only other reliable striker Healy moved to Europe this summer. Replaced her with the American CF Tessa Salvestrin. She’s an unproven player but it seems all hopes in attack will be on her shoulders. The Taranto twins should play important roles also. Adriana Taranto is seen as the new main AM. Her sister Melissa is much more defensive-oriented player. She will serve as a protector to the back line. Lost some great players in the summer. So far not too many quality new signings made. Lack depth in defence where outside the 4 starters there seems to be no back-ups. Adding at least 2-3 new defenders very soon must be main priority for 2nd year manager Theo Tsiounis. Right now Adelaide look short on options for multiple positions and they really can’t afford any absentees.

Target

Making the playoffs will be considered a success. More likely to struggle.
