Alfreton begin their third consecutive season in the Conference aiming to once again beat the drop and consolidate in mid-table. The Reds are going part-time for the upcoming season in order to save on costs but Nicky Law will aim to have an even more competitive and tightly-knit squad than last year and focused on bringing in quality players in instead of building a bulging squad. Chris Westwood and Tom Shaw are very good signings for a club of Alfreton's level and will bring consistency and reliability in defence and midfield. Nick Fenton joined a week before the start of the season too and is another fine capture in defence. Thus, Alfreton will be based around watertight defence and hard work over the course of the campaign. The worry is the relative lack of firepower after the summer departures of explosive winger Nathan Arnold and striker Ben Tomlinson who had a very good season last year. A few seasoned veterans like Anton Brown and Theo Streete departed as well and Law will once again rely on loan deals to shore up the squad as the campaigns goes on. There is little else to say about Alfreton who will be capable of getting the odd good result against a big gun but cannot be relied to go on good runs of form for a number of games, mostly because the absence of real goalscorer in the side.

Target

Staying up is the natural aim for the Reds and they should be able to complete it with the quality players they signed in the summer.
