Mark Wilson will be hoping that some positives can come from the Covid-19 pandemic and end Brechin City’s downward Spiral. Back-to-back relegations saw the Hedge fall back to League 2 in 2019 and they continued to struggle under manager Barry Smith at the start of last season. He was soon replaced by rookie Wilson, who also struggled to turn their fortunes around. A bottom-of-the-table finish and a relegation play-off was almost a certainty before the Covid-19 pandemic led to the cancellation of the season. Wilson has spent the long summer looking to rebuild his squad and there have been a couple of notable departures in club stalwarts Dougie Hill and Andy Jackson. It shows there is no room for sentiment and he has wasted no time bringing in reinforcements, including a return to former club Celtic for defender Dave McKay. A trio of players have arrived from Dunfermline Athletic in defender Gregor Jordan and midfield duo Matthew Todd and Scott Cusick. There will be high hopes for striker Rory Currie, who has joined from Hearts whilst striker Michael Paton brings plenty of experience with him from Queen of the South. Wilson will need to get to grips with the job after an inauspicious start. A good start to the new season would certainly bring some much-needed confidence.

Target

Survival. After three years of struggle, Wilson’s first aim is to bring some results to Glebe Park but it will be easier said than done.
