Davie Irons will be looking for a significant improvement as looks to bring some stability to Stenhousemuir. The Warriors have failed to live up to their nickname over the past two seasons and the cancellation of the last campaign due to the Covid-19 pandemic will have come as something of a relief to many at Ochilview Park. Irons returned for another spell in charge in September 2019 but struggled to turn their fortunes around with the side languishing in 8th place before the season was brought to a halt. Things might have been worse had it not been for goalkeeper Graeme Smith, who had another outstanding campaign and has signed on for another year. There were significant issues with the defenders in front of him and many have been released this summer. Mark McGuigan’s role as top striker has been usurped following the arrival of striker Greig Spence in January and he faces even more competition with the arrival of Tommy Muir, who enjoyed a productive season at Annan Athletic. Striker Connor McBride’s loan spell from Falkirk had been steady if unspectacular yet he made a rather surprising move to Blackburn Rovers this summer. Callum Tapping and Paul Brown look shrewd additions in the middle of the park but the defence still needs a little a strengthening before the transfer window shuts.

Target

Mid-table. A season of consolidation and stability is what is needed at Stenhousemuir and that should be a realistic if modest ambition.
