James McDonaugh has transformed the Citizens since taking over as manager from Gary Jardine, who guided the club into the Football League back in 2016. Backed by the club hierarchy, McDonaugh has built a side that has been challenging for the title in the last two seasons. They were pipped to the post by Peterhead in 2019 before being left in Cove Rangers wake last season. The campaign was of course cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic but Cove Rangers were rightfully promoted as Champions nonetheless. In both cases their promotion push was derailed by injuries to key players and they will be hoping that things will be different this time around. The long summer has allowed McDonaugh to strengthen his squad yet again and the capture of winger Danny Jardine from Stirling Albion looks to be shrewd one. The loan signings of Josh Campbell and Zac Butterworth from Premiership Hibernian and Rangers are promising as is the news of the return to fitness of striker Blair Henderson. He bagged an incredible 38 goals in 2018/19 and will be hungry for more goals after an injury-hit last campaign. It would be fair to say the Citizens look in good shape to go one better and claim the title this time around.

Target

Champions. Without an opponent with the obvious strengths of Peterhead or Cove Rangers, the League 2 title looks to be well within their grasp.
