Bury did well to win back promotion to League One at the first time of asking, but the Shakers' elation with their return to League One soon proved to despair due to off-field matters. The club has been charged over unpaid taxes and only narrowly managed to avoid liquidation. As a consequence, they have been docked twelve points and face a big uphill battle going into the new season. Unsurprisingly, given the financial situation, the Shakers have been unable to sign any new players, while losing numerous regulars, including the likes of Danny Mayor, Joe Murphy, Nicky Maynard and Nicky Adams. Manager Ryan Lowe has left to take over at Plymouth, whose previous experience consists only of assistant and caretaker manager jobs, takes over as their new boss. The Shakers had a squad of only 15 players at the moment of writing of this guide. While there is still a possibility that they will bring in players on loan, there is little doubt that they face a truly uphill battle in the new season.

Target

Staying up with their current squad would be seen as a huge achievement even without their point deduction. With it, it would be a minor miracle.
