Wycombe finished the previous season as 17th in League One, which was their highest Football League finish in 17 years, with Gareth Ainsworth describing survival as his greatest achievement as manager. However, the Chairboys owe their survival mainly to results from earlier in the season, having been as high up the table as ninth until February. Results fell off a cliff then and only a couple of wins over direct relegation rivals managed to keep them safe. Despite achieving the goal of survival, Ainsworth will be well aware that he is in charge of a side desperately short of momentum and it is hardly surprising that he opted to shake up the squad during the summer. Not a single important player has left the club, as the men who have left were either fringe players or hardly featured last time around due to injuries, with Darius Charles the prime example for the latter situation. The Chairboys have signed seven new players so far, with the new arrivals a mixed bag when it comes to having any prior League One experience. However, Wycombe hardly have the resources to try and bring in more high-profile signings and Ainsworth will once again be expected to make the most out of what is a rather mediocre group of players. While a rather well organized side that is hard to dislike by neutrals, Wycombe lack the resources and the quality of the majority of teams in the division and will once again have to beat the odds if they are to stay up.

Target

Any sort of a finish outside of the bottom four would be seen as mission accomplished.
