Colorado missed out on the playoffs after finishing 11th in the West in a mediocre 2025 campaign. They did win eight of their 17 games on home soil but struggled on the road, grabbing just three victories and suffering 10 losses. The club mutually parted ways with manager Chris Armas, who has been replaced by an inexperienced coach in former Tottenham Hotspur assistant Matt Wells. They lost some starters including midfielders Cole Bassett and Oliver Larraz, as well as centre-back Andreas Maxsø. Although they did fill the gaps, it’s unclear if they’ve equated what left, as youngsters Hamzat Ojediran and Dante Sealy might be thrown straight into the starting lineup. Wells is a relatively unknown coach, who is expected to maintain a back four while building the team around franchise playmaker Paxten Aaronson. Taking into account various reports, Wells is expected to promote and work with young players while trying to improve Colorado’s defensive play during the season. That said, one of their strengths lies in the the full-back position, where Reggie Cannon, Keegan Rosenberry, Sam Vines and Jackson Travis offer depth and versatility despite their lack top-class quality. Meanwhile, there might be concern about the level of their centre-back duo that consists of experienced Rob Holding and prodigious Noah Cobb. Although their midfield looks packed, Colorado are lacking depth on the flanks for the time being.

Target

The only realistic objective is to compete for a play-in spot. Clinching a top-seven slot would automatically make their season successful.
