A dreadful 2025 season saw Toronto win just six of their 34 games. They scored only 37 goals, the third-lowest across the league, with no player netting more than six. Finally managed to part ways with Italian DPs Lorenzo Insigne and Federico Bernardeschi in July, turning the season into a rebuild year, where they signed a talented Djordje Mihailovic, around whom they’ll build the team. Toronto offloaded starting defenders Raoul Petretta, Sigurd Rosted and Kevin Long, none of whom impressed last season despite the team conceding 44 goals - third-lowest in the East. In came one of MLS’ most experienced centre-backs in Walker Zimmerman, who is expected to be the leader of Toronto’s defence. Meanwhile, Sean Johnson’s departure is a major blow for Toronto, with the international goalkeeper being their finest asset. Luka Gavran made the most of his opportunities last season, but he’s still a downgrade. With all these departures at the back, coach Robin Fraser will be called to find defensive cohesion again this term. Toronto’s main strength lies in boasting several versatile defenders who can feature in more than one positions around Zimmerman, who’s going to be the team’s pillar at the back. There is concern about the lack of quality on the wings, where no player stands out. Toronto need to beef up their attack, which is currently lacking a natural starting striker.

Target

To show improvement, build identity after the Italian-DPs era and compete for a play-in spot after finishing as many as 21 points behind ninth in the East last season.
