Enjoyed a great first season back in the top flight. Started the campaign slowly, but grew into form. Looked set for a top 6 finish but again. Midfield was strong, offering a tough core that oppositions often failed to break down, and new midfielder Fuchs was a particularly exciting addition. Forward line sometimes misfired, with star striker Shankland failing to adjust and Clarke hit and miss. Squad forwards like Calmers, Appere and Watson offering limited contributions. Addressing this issue will be key to a successful campaign. Manager Micky Mellon was a surprise departure despite his success. New appointment Tam Courts has extremely limited experience in senior football but was well regarded as academy coach and could make good use of exciting young players at the club. Summer recruitment has been unimpressive so far, with only 3 new signings arriving, none in attacking positions, although some squad players impressed in League Cup games and could break into starting XI. 4 straight wins from the league cup group campaign were a big positive, but opposition were relatively weak. Lack of a budget and an inexperienced manager could mean United are in for a tough season, but derby games against near rivals Dundee FC will be a huge motivator and strong results in those could offer a much needed morale boost.

Target

6th. After a relatively impressive first season back in the top flight, United can aim to challenge for European spots. In practice, this may be difficult, and the board will likely be satisfied with comfortably avoiding relegation.
