An excellent last campaign saw St Mirren enjoy their best season in over 30 years, but it could have been even better, were it not for them falling out of the top 6 in the last game of the 1st phase. A strong defensive core contributed to grinding out results and, while the forward line sometimes struggled, a breakout campaign for McCarthy saw them score plenty of goals. Pre-season campaign has been a positive one, with 3 wins from 3 and only 1 goal conceded in League Cup group stages, although these all came against lower league opposition. New strikers have bedded in well. Recruitment has been promising, as St Mirren trim off much of the deadwood from their squad and bring in some quality new additions. Charles Dunne and Scott Tanser arrived from Motherwell and St Johnstone respectively and are real standout signings, offering a big boost to defence. Players who briefly featured last season, like Henderson and Brophy, could play more of a role and will be excellent additions if they can live up to their reputations. Carrying through pre-season form into the league campaign will be key and, if St Mirren can improve in front of goal, they could have a very successful season indeed.

Target

Top 6. After missing out so narrowly last season, the Buddies will be determined to go one better this time.
