Boss Christian Titz eventually guided Magdeburg to safety last season despite a difficult first half of the campaign. The club’s attacking style of play landed them in trouble for a while but they eventually found more balance and finished the season strongly. Kwarteng was one of the standout performers last season but this has led to him leaving for Bochum in the Bundesliga. Defensive midfielder Muller has also left for Darmstadt but, considering he missed a lot of last season through injury, this loss has already been dealt with. There is still plenty of attacking quality in the ranks, Baris Atik should again be at the heart of it while the purchase of Ahmet Arslan will also be interesting after he finished top-scorer for Dynamo Dresden on loan from Holstein Kiel last season. They will be hoping new signing Amaechi can fulfil his potential after he failed to make the grade at his previous club Hamburger and if other new boy Nollenberger can make the step-up from third division Bayreuth. Titz is expected to continue with his possession-based attacking style and this should see Magdeburg cause teams real problems again going forward. There could still be vulnerabilities defensively with new recruits Hoti, Hugonet, and Chahed all untested in this division.
