Eintracht Braunschweig's first season back in Liga 2 was a tough one but they managed to survive by the skin of their teeth. There was enough quality for them to be further up the table but they struggled for any kind of consistency and were miserable on their travels. The club’s owners were not convinced that coach Michael Schiele could take them forward and he was replaced in the summer by Jens Hartel. The ex Hansa Rostock boss will have a point to prove after being let go by his former club last season. There is no doubt that changes were needed to the squad over the summer with many incomings and outgoings. Key attacking midfielder Pherai has been snapped up by Hamburger and that will be a loss to the side. The club has brought in a total of eight new faces so far. Griesbeck, Caliskaner, and Rittmuller all have recent experience at this level with their previous clubs and should improve the competition in all areas of the pitch. Hartel has also sought to find leadership in defence with the purchase of Finland international Ivanov, but the backline is still an area that might need improving further before the window shuts. Braunschweig could be a threat going forward this season after the addition of young attacking duo Gomez and Philippe, both excelled at their former clubs and are hungry to make an impression. Winger Amyn from Feyenoord is another talent to look out for.

Target

Braunschweig could find life difficult again with the level of competition rising. Survival will be the main objective but a mid-table position can be achieved if the new-look team adjusts quickly.
