Football Season Guide

The steep progress of Kelty Hearts continued as they defeated Brechin City in the Pyramid play-offs and find themselves in League Two. Kelty had not played much football in the 20/21 season, but they were declared champions of the Lowland League to set up their clash with Brechin. Surprisingly, the architect of their recent progress, Barry Ferguson, resigned and is now manager at Alloa. Last season Kelty had a highly experienced and capable squad that probably would have challenged for the League Two title. Some such as Paddy Boyle and Dylan Easton have chosen to move to League One clubs. The veterans well into their 30s, Rogers, Scobbie and Stevenson have all left the club. Kelty have made several signings that overall would make them competitive in the league above them (League One). Highly experienced Jordan Forster joins from Dundee with winger Joe Cardle arriving from Partick Thistle. Andrew Black comes into midfield after a successful season at Edinburgh City and is joined by another midfielder Jamie Barjonas from Rangers. Another ex-Rangers player, Kevin Thomson, is now in charge after being on the coaching staff at Rangers. However, this is his first major role and represents a big risk for Kelty Hearts. Their squad is well balanced and would not look out of place in League One or even at the lower end of the Championship. They are expected to prosper in League Two.
