Stranraer had a good season and finished 4th only because of goal difference. They fancied their chances against Dumbarton in the play-offs but a single goal over 2 legs put an end to their promotion hopes. Manager Steve Farrell resigned and has since joined Dumbarton in League One. Veteran player Jamie Hamill has retired and taken charge at Stair Park. There have been some significant departures at Stranraer with classy defender Adam Cummins being the main one with a switch to Stirling Albion. Forwards Orr and Paton have left with 43 appearances and 14 goals between them last season. Key midfielder Andy Stirling also departs and leaves a significant slot to fill. Elliot and Hilton leaving also represents a blow to Stranraer’s attacking options and scoring ability. The new signings have not been impressive with Josh Rennie and Craig Ross signing from Kilmarnock’s reserves. Midfielder Langan has signed after a couple of seasons with Dumbarton. Muir is a forward with spells at Annan and Stenhousemuir but scored only 2 goals last season. With several quality players departing and a new manager at the helm, Stranraer are facing a big task this season. It is clear Jamie Hamill has been given few resources and he will have to look to the loan market. Stranraer should be looking at making a title challenge, but the quality and depth of their squad suggests they could struggle.

Target

Stranraer should still be aiming for the play-offs after losing a few key players over the summer.
