Oostende had a nightmare last season and only the blind luck and the fact that Waasland-Beveren were just a bit worse than them ensured that they stay up. The team went through numerous coaching changes but never found rhythm and wins could barely be counted on the fingers of one hand. The whole club needed a reset after that campaign and the management will be hoping that the arrival of young progressive German coach Alexander Blessin will provide that. He has worked before in the excellent RB Leipzig academy but this is his first managerial role with a first-team and will need to hit the ground running to win over the doubters. The squad has been cleared of all the injury-ridden and highly-paid players who failed to perform last season, mostly notable Ronald Vargas, Nicolas Lombaerts and Renato Neto, while solid defender Wout Faes has moved to France and will be missed. Blessin has brought in some interesting additions to the squad and one that will catch the eye is promising Celtic centre-back Jack Hendry. Up front., Marko Kvasina will be expected to finally become the man to lead the attack after a number of failed signings in that department in recent years. Kevin Vandendriessche and Brecht Capon are pretty much the only players left from the squad that did so well a few years ago and they will be needed to brink the link between that and hopefully a new, successful side. There are promising signs but it is hard to be too optimistic about a side that has struggled so bad in the last two years. Yet, they should be capable of a mid-table finish.

Target

Being comfortable in mid-table.
