Last season, Union looked really good for promotion for a long period but the lack of depth in the squad showed in the last few months of the competition and the Irons seem to have learned their lessons from that bitter experience that saw them falling just short of a top 3 finish. Coach, Jens Keller, lost only one regular in the summer as Puncec moved back to his home country but the manager shopped really well and Union are one of the main favourites to achieve promotion this season. The arrivals of experienced centre-backs Torrejon and Schosswendter mean that Puncec's departure will most likely go unnoticed as Union have rich options for their backline. In goal, things look solid too with Mesenholer and Busk fiercely competing for the right to be the first-choice. Keller strengthened his midfield too as he signed the bright talent Promel to add extra competition, plus the arrivals of the two attacking midfielders Gogia and Hartel suggest that Damir Kreilach will be given complete freedom to roam wherever he wants on the pitch. Up front, Union have options too and despite not having too many strikers on the books they have three very good ones. All of Polter, Skrzybski and Hosiner are capable of winning matches on their own. Union have been hugely successful hosts for the past three seasons and, with so much talent and depth in their ranks, this looks imperative again, which suggests that if their form on the road is decent too Keller's men will be a team nobody wants to meet. Even if injuries occur, Union seem to have a ready made back-up option for every position on the pitch. The Irons look really well balanced for a long and successful campaign and they will definitely want to make a strong start and build on that later on.
