Willem II were by far the biggest disappointment of last season, as the one before they qualified directly for the Europa League's preliminary rounds, having reached the 5th position at the moment of suspension for the pandemic. Tricolores had to fight until the very last round to avoid relegation to Eerste Divisie and finished in 14th position thanks to a last-gasp effort. Things didn't go well from the start and they didn't improve even when coach Adrie Koster was replaced by Željko Petrović. As the Montenegrin coach also did not do well, this year he has been replaced by Fred Grim from RKC Waalwijk. It was not the only change that took place during the summer that saw many influential players leave Tilburg. Talented attacking midfielder Mike Trésor Ndayishimiye moved to Genk and Willem II top scorer Vangelis Pavlidis left to AZ Alkmaar. Moreover, three pillars of the defense left, Sebastian Holmen went to Turkey, Sven van Beek back to Feyenoord and captain Jordens Peters retired. If an attempt was made to remedy the loss of the three central defenders with the arrival of Emil Bergström on loan from Utrecht and the Norwegian Ulrik Jenssen, at the moment the gaps in midfield and in attack have not been filled. Coach Grim should line-up the squad with the 4-3-3 system with Bergstrom and Jenssen in the middle, Owusu on the right and Kohn (or Nelom) on the left. In midfield he can only field Llonch, Saddiki and Saglam and in attack Kohlert and Nunnely to support Wriedt.

Target

Willem II's season will likely come closer to last season, therefore involved in the relegation struggle, than the previous triumphant one, too many key players have left and their substitutes don't seem at the same level.
