Club Profile | Based in Pamplona in the Navarre region of Spain, El Sadar is the home to Osasuna and it is one of the most intimidating and atmospheric stadiums in all of Spain. While it’s not especially large, with its capacity of 18,000, El Sadar’s design and architecture make for a brilliant match day atmosphere as this small stadium that is tight and close to the pitch and that brings the fans right up to the action. Osasuna have traditionally been a force at home and this was in evidence during their promotion-winning 2018/19 campaign, when they didn’t lose a single league game at El Sadar. Worryingly for opposition teams, Osasuna have a grand plan to expand the stadium further and to increase the capacity to 24,000 and this is expected to be completed in 2020. Given that Osasuna is one of four clubs in Spain’s professional tiers that remains a sporting society, it is run by the members and these members selected the stadium plans from a range of options that were put to a vote. |
Stadium | Historically, Osasuna have sort of been a yo-yo team, but over long periods of time. When they come up to the top division, they tend to stay there for a while. Then, when they go down, they tend to stay there for a while. Right now, they’re in LaLiga after winning promotion by finishing top of the second division in 2018/19 under Jagoba Arrasate. With their centenary coming up in 2020, this means they’ll be able to celebrate their 100th year in the top tier of Spanish football. |
