Stadium | The 5,000 capacity Parc Pommery was the first stadium occupied by Stade de Reims. In 1931 they moved to the Stade Comunal, re-named Stade Auguste-Delaune after World War II. Characterised by a velodrome, the venue had a capacity of 18,000 and was one of the biggest French stadiums of the time. In 1954 that they had floodlights installed and with that were able to host international games. Due to limited home support the club ended up playing their main European fixtures in Stade de Colombes or Parc des Princes in Paris. After dropping down to amateur football in the 1990s the capacity of Stade Auguste-Delaune was reduced to 3,000. By this point the stadium was creaking with age. In 1997 the mayor of Reims launched a project to rebuild the stadium. Development began to coincide with Reims’ return to professional football and lasted some 7 years. The new stadium, British in style and without a velodrome boasts a capacity of 22,000. |
