Stadium | Since 1947, Werder Bremen have called the Weser-Stadion home. It has been redeveloped multiple times since then and boasts a current capacity of 42,000. In 2002, for example, the athletics track that used to separate the fans from the pitch was removed and now the seating is tight to the playing surface. Unlike most German stadiums, this stadium is located really close to the city centre. While Bremen isn’t a particularly large city, they do have lots of fans in the city and they regularly fill the ground on match days. |
Recent History | Werder Bremen might be the dictionary definition of a mid-table Bundesliga club. They won the German title in 2003/04 and also qualified for the Champions League in the four years after that. But, since then they’ve regularly finished in mid-table. For the first 13 years of this century, they were coached by Thomas Schaaf. Since he left in 2013, though, they’ve struggled to find consistency on the bench, although current coach Florian Kohfeldt has now been there since 2017. In terms of size, Werder Bremen are right in the middle as far as metrics like stadium capacity, average attendance, city population and number of academy players produced. |
