The 2022 Allsvenskan champions had to settle only for 3rd place last season. Hacken were never close enough to challenge for back-to-back titles despite having by far the best attacking record – scored 69 goals in 30 rounds. The big issues were in defence, conceded 39 goals. Hacken’s 2023 campaign was also hindered by the fact that both at the start of last season and during the summer months some key players were sold. Having to rebuild the squad several times wasn’t easy and in the end the consistency to challenge for the title was simply not there. Cashing in on their young talent continued this winter too. The bright prospect and 2023 Allsvenskan’s “Young Player of the Year” winner Sonko was sold for many millions in the winter. Hacken also parted ways with their title-winning manager as he got tired from all this constant sale of his stars. Paco Johansen is the new head coach. The early indications are he won’t be changing the style of play much. Despite amassing lots of money from transfers in the last 12 months, Hacken have been conservative with their spendings this winter. Most of the players that have joined are young prospects. Hacken do that though and they like to develop young players who bring them good returns after that. It might take time for Hacken to find proper form. The run in the Svenska Cupen in February-March showed that. Failed to even make it out of the group stage after W1 D1 L1 record. This wasn’t good as their group was easy on paper – 2 lower-league teams and Brommapojkarna.
