Dortmund finished strongly under interim boss Edin Terzic last season. They eventually turned things around after a poor start, finishing third and winning the DFB Cup. Former Borussia Monchengladbach boss Marco Rose is the new man in charge for the upcoming campaign and will have the responsibility of getting Dortmund back challenging Bayern for the title again. It was always going to be an uphill battle trying to keep both Jadon Sancho and Erling Haaland at the club after ongoing speculation. The latter finally made the big money move to Manchester United and will be a loss to the side, however, the big Norwegian Haaland looks set to stay for at least another season. In terms of the incoming activity, Dortmund have added well. Donyell Malen has been brought in from PSV and will be seen as the direct replacement for Sancho, the exciting Dutch winger should cause lots of problems with his pace and trickery. Dortmund have also signed goalkeeper Gregor Kobel from Stuttgart and he will be the new number one for the upcoming season. The Swiss stopper has a big presence and should have a big future at the club. There is no doubt Dortmund’s strengths will again lie in their forward play and plenty of goals are expected. The emphasis will continue to be on youth, young striker Moukoko will hope to play some more, as well as hot prospects, Coulibaly and Kamara, brought in from PSG. The concern will again be the defence, a position where they have struggled in recent seasons. Coach Rose didn’t have the best defensive record for his previous club so you do worry they could be weak in that department.

Target

Title - It will be a big ask for Dortmund to dethrone Bayern at the top but you would expect them to be closer than the previous two seasons. They certainly have the players in the squad to be up for the challenge but consistency over the course of the season is key.
