It was another historic campaign for Union Berlin last season as they booked a place in Europe for the first ever time in their history, making it to the inaugural season of the Europa Conference League while missing out on a place in the Europa League by just two points. Coach Fischer has spent the summer looking to improve his bench strength, bringing in a number of players on free transfers. Oztunali, Wszolek, Khedira and Haraguchi are some of the key names signed following the end of their contracts while Berlin have also spent a decent chunk of their fee in converting Taiwo Awoniyi and Keita Endo's loan deals into a permanent moves. Frederik Ronnow and Tymoteusz Puchacz have also been brought in to improve the options at the back. Berlin have lost some experienced players over the summer with the likes of Christopher Lenz, Christian Gentner and Florian Hubner all leaving after their contracts expired while Marius Bulter has been sold. The club also decided not to renew deals for Joel Pohjanpalo, Loris Karius, Petar Musa and Nico Schlotterbeck. There has been a major turnover in the squad over the summer but there are unlikely to be too many changes to the starting lineup when the new season kicks off. Much of how the campaign goes will depend on Berlin's ability to deal with the additional load of playing in Europe though they should finish in a comfortable position come the end of the season

Target

Unlikely to repeat last season's heroics but will be aiming to finish as close to the top half of the table.
