Dortmund finished runners-up last season after an improved campaign under Kovac, although their Euro and DFB Pokal appearances were fairly short-lived, they proved to be consistent performers in the league, losing just 5 times. Despite having the best defence in the league last season, Kovac did face criticism for his side lacking flair and creativity in attack, something which has been so often associated with the club in the past. The new signings made so far do suggest there will be more of a creative spark to Dortmund this time around. Greek attacking midfielder Karetsas has already made an impression during pre-season while fellow compatriot Konstantelios is also expected to make his mark. Dutchman Joey Veerman is another technically gifted playmaker to join and with Nmecha and Bellingham also both still on board, the Black and Yellow look strong in the central midfield area. French talent Gadou has already looked good in preparation and could be a starter in defence, especially with Schlotterbeck sidelined for the beginning of the season. Left-back Prates and attacking midfielder Lerma are exciting young talents also brought in to further push their development. Dortmund should be more pleasing on the eye this season whilst also maintaining a strong defensive unit. Competition for places has certainly increased but keeping everyone happy may become an issue for Kovac.

Target

Champions - Trying to dismantle Bayern from the top is of course a very difficult task, but Dortmund looked well-equipped to make it a more interesting race this time around.
