Elversberg's meteoric rise from the fourth-tier reached its pinnacle last season as they gained promotion to the top flight for the first time in their history. Coach Vincent Wagner has only been at the club for one season but has already shown his credentials in developing youngsters and finding the right players that fit the system. Elversberg have once again had to be shrewd in the transfer market, given their lack of financial muscle compared to their competitors. Luca Sirch will add competition in defence but his versatility means he can also cover in midfield if needed. Securing defensive midfielder Poreba on a permanent basis after his impressive loan spell is definitely a plus, but more is likely to be needed in that area. Attacking midfielders Conte and Pherai both returned to their parent-clubs, but young talents Onyeka and Darvich have the ability to take on the role. The loan signing of Futkeu in attack could also be a smart one, still untested at this level but his strength and finishing ability made him one of the standout performers in the second division last season. Krattenmacher is another player with plenty of potential and with key player Petkov and creative winger Zimmersheid also still in the ranks, you would expect Elversberg to pose a threat going forward. Elversberg are expected to play a high line and be bold under Wagner so they may spring a surprise or two, especially at home in a small compact stadium. Despite their ability, a lot of the current squad are inexperienced at this level and this could be a problem for Elversberg.

Target

Survival - Elversberg are one of the favourites for relegation but they thrive on being the underdog, write them off at your peril.
