A first full season in charge for coach Ilzer proved to be a successful one as Hoffenheim gained Europa League qualification after a 5th place finish. It was important for Die Kraichgauer to improve squad depth during the summer as they attempt to tackle 3 different competitions this season. The loss of key winger Toure is a tough one to swallow but Daghim from Salzburg has potential to be a top performer with his pace and technical ability. Club legend Kramaric isn't getting any younger so the purchase of Wimmer from Wolfsburg will add extra energy and versatility in the attacking midfield area. Box to box midfielder Promel has also moved on but highly-rated young duo De Cat and Lenz should help fill the void alongside the trusted Burger and Avdullahu. The left-back area was a weakness last season so the acquisition of Mats Rots should help. Hajdari did cover previously but is needed in the centre with Machida injured again. Hoffenheim are expected to be strong again this year, especially in attack. The squad is slightly smaller so strength in depth could be an issue if injuries hit. Although previous appearances in Euro competition have had a negative impact on their league form, Hoffenheim look better equipped in terms of quality.

Target

Top 4 - Hoffenheim have the ability in the squad to compete for a Champions League spot, but this is likely to depend on their progress in other competitions.
