Thun have been a side that punches above their weight for the better part of the last decade-and-a-half and the Oberlanders have had another good campaign that saw them reach the cup final and finish fourth in the league. Marc Schneider had some blips in his first months as their manager back in early 2018 but really came into his stride last season and got the Thuner to play the efficient attacking-minded brand of football that they are known for. The Oberlanders' fans are pretty much used to seeing their side losing their key performer and it was more of the same this time around, with Marvin Spielmann leaving to join regional rivals Young Boys. It is also worth noting that club stalwart Nelson Ferreira has retired, although his on-field contribution last season was minimal. On the other side, Thun are known for unearthing gems from lower leagues and the likes of Saleh Chihadeh, Nikki Havenaar and Nias Hefti will all be hoping to perform in the top flight. Another player to look out for is Simone Rapp, who was the Super League top scorer in the first half of the 2017/18 season, only to then leave Thun for Lausanne and see his career enter a downward spiral. He is now back to his place of success. While losing Spielmann is a blow, Thun have not changed too much other than that. They will therefore be optimistic regarding their chances of keeping doing what they did last season.

Target

Thun will be hoping to again qualify for Europe, but are under no genuine pressure to do so. Schneider's job will be safe as long as he keeps them away from danger and keeps playing attractive football.
