Football Season Guide

Chaves were the big sensation in the first half of last season. Coming from the second division, Flavienses were a very solid side during the time Jorge Simão was at the helm. After Simão joined Braga, Ricardo Soares assumed the post and still had relative success. However, as the season approached the end and there were very few objectives available to achieve, the team dropped their performances and also some places in the table. Still, a very respectful 11th place finish was achieved and the fans wouldn't mind a repeat this season. For the season to come, Chaves won't be counting on some important men from last term. Winger virtuoso, Fábio Martins, had a great season and he was rewarded by returning to Braga's squad so he won’t continue at Chaves. Striker Rafael Lopes, midfielder Bruno Braga and full-back Nélson Lenho were all important first team players but they are all on the way out. On the way in, Rúben Ferreira arrives from Guimarães to replace Nélson Lenho. Domingos Duarte is a young talent that had a good season at Belenenses and will now be loaned by Sporting to Chaves. Platiny showed some good abilities before picking up a serious injury while at Feirense, last season. He is a good candidate for the striker position in the starting line-up. Jorginho arrives on loan from French side St. Etiènne and might be the ideal replacement for Fábio Martins' role of troublemaker in the attack. Matheus Pereira is a very hot talent that Sporting decided to loan this season and could be a plus factor. Chaves have the conditions to get an early safety place in the season and avoid any sort of last minute headaches. New coach, Luís Castro, proved all his capabilities while at Rio Ave and promises to bring his attractive style of attacking football to Chaves.
