Greuther Furth endured a difficult season in the Bundesliga last term and were subsequently relegated. The Cloverleaf finished rock bottom of the table, picking up just 18 points from 34 games. They did become more competitive as the season went on but were largely out of their depth on the big stage. The club stood by coach Stefan Leitl throughout the last campaign but a change was needed on both sides during the summer. Leitl has taken charge of Hannover, while Furth has brought in Marc Schneider as his successor. Schneider will bring fresh ideas to the group but is inexperienced in managing in Germany, having most recently coached in Belgium and Switzerland. Furth have never had a massive budget in terms of transfer funds and this season will be no different. Youthful talent appears to be the way forward, with new boys Littbarski, Mhamdi, Sieb and Raebiger, all under the age of 20. Striker Ragnar Ache on loan from Eintracht Frankfurt is also a good addition, while defender Oussama Haddadi should bring some experience to the backline. Furth will have to lift themselves again for the new season and will also have to deal with the loss of key players such as Leweling, Seguin and Nielsen, all of whom played a part in their promotion two years ago. Captain Hrgota remains at the club for now, so keeping him would be a big bonus.

Target

There is no reason why Furth can’t be in the mix for promotion, however they may find it difficult to achieve again straight away. A new manager and a youthful squad could take a bit of time to gel, so a top six finish is more likely.
