Sevilla’s wage cap was set as the lowest in La Liga during the 2024/25 campaign, and it showed as the team only secured survival by a single point to finish in 17th. That was their worst return since they last won promotion back to the top flight in 2001. Protests off the field surrounding the club’s ownership have been ongoing and have not been quelled by the appointment of Matias Almeyda as coach. Arriving from AEK Athens, the Argentine has no experience in Spain and has left many followers concerned. That is unlikely to help a home record of only one win in 2025. The squad will have a familiar look as many of the changes see loanees return and others return to their parent clubs. That includes attacking duo Kelechi Iheanacho and Rafa Mir. One signing that does catch the eye is the arrival of Odisseas Vlachodimos to rival Orjan Nyland for the number one spot after recording one of the league’s lowest save percentages. Sevilla will benefit from a fresh approach with Almeyda’s arrival after six coaches in the last three years. The decision to award him a three-year deal could be the closest Sevilla have come to long-term planning for some time.

Target

Stability. After a chaotic season last year on and off the field for Sevilla, mid-table mediocrity will appeal to many Sevillistas who are looking for consistency and safety above all else.
