Utrecht U21 had a pretty poor season last year and always looked like one of the worst teams in the league, struggling to get on a winning run and being too open at the back. They have a new man in the dugout this season in what is a pretty experienced and respected coach in Darje Kalezic. The Bosnian is well versed in the league and will be expected to bring more consistency and better results this year. Utrecht look like a pretty shallow squad at the moment and, having lost Jeredy Hilterman, they really will struggle for goals too after he bagged 19 for them last year. The hope is that some of the youngsters coming from the lower age groups will be able to bring something extra to the squad but nothing really jumps out at the moment. French midfielder Albert Lottin is someone with good potential and could develop his game while Rubin Kluivert showed some promise at centre-back last season and may well make the step up. Yet it is hard to predict anything else than mostly an existence in the lower half of mid-table for Utrecht at the moment and they just do not have the quality to surprise bigger teams in the league.
