Welling are starting their second season in a row in the Conference Premier and will be certainly looking to consolidate and enjoy another steady campaign in mid-table. The small club from South London were expected to struggle badly last season but they coped very well with the challenges they faced despite the smallish squad and the limited resources. However, this could be a trickier campaign for the Wings as they are not that unknown now and teams will be accustomed to their specific style of play. Moreover, Jamie Day has lost a couple of big players that carried the team last season. Ross Lafayette, the bustling free-scoring striker, joined neighbours Luton and he is practically irreplaceable in the system. Kurtis Guthrie, the other main attacking weapon, is also gone while Blaine Hudson will be missed in defence too. Kieron St Aimie, another big forward with experience at this level, is the main signed to fill Lafayette’s boots but he has shown little to suggest that he can do that. Day also signed a couple of decent young players in defence in Zach Fagan and Callum McNaughton and has also shown to be a shrewd operator in the loan market. However, it looks like it will be a harder task for Welling to keep their heads above the water. They may well have enough in the locker to stay up but it will be a more difficult season than last year and they may end up quite close to the bottom four.

Target

Lost some good players and are set to struggle more in the upcoming season; relegation is quite a probable outcome
