Wrexham endured a highly disappointing and deflating last season, having enjoyed quite a bit of success in the previous two, and will be keen to rebuild and come back stronger with a new man in charge. Andy Morrell was a highly popular and engaging manager who really showed a lot of quality while in charge but he had run out of steam and ideas by the end of his tenure and was logically sacked in March with the team perched in the bottom half of the table. Kevin Wilkin was appointed as a replacement in April and had a month to assess the squad and prepare well for his first full season in charge. Wilkin showed great leadership and ability to spot talent on a budget with Nuneaton in the previous few seasons and he will relish the chance to manage a club of a higher calibre and with extra pressure attached. He has not signed too many new players up to now but went to his former club to bring in Louis Moult and Wes York, two excellent attacking players, while also boasting the back line with Blaine Hudson from Cambridge. Yet, Connor Jennings is the best signing of the lot up to now as he really made a splash at this level with Macclesfield last season while on loan and may prove a real coup. He bagged 20 goals in half a season for a rather average side like the Silkmen and played quite well for Grimsby at the end of last season too. So, for the Dragons to get the striker from Scunthorpe on a permeant deal is quite a statement and he is expected to be a main man up front in the upcoming campaign. The midfield is an ageing one but there is still enough quality in it and the Welsh club looks in decent position going to the upcoming season. There are still a few areas of the squad where there is not enough quality and a sustained play-off charge may be out of the question. However, Wilkin is known for overachieving and Wrexham will almost certainly enjoy a better season than the last one.
