Stadium | Vitality Stadium (Dean Court - opened 1910) Capacity: 11,329 Pitch Size: 105m x 78m Dean Court was completely rebuilt in 2001, the pitch being rotated 90 degrees from its original position. At that time the stadium had 3 sides with stands, but a 4th temporary stand was added, then removed as attendances fell between 2010 and 2012. In 2013 a 2,400 seat stand was build to bring the stadium to its current capacity. Bournemouth do not own their stadium, but having sold to Structadene in 2005, lease the stadium back from the London based property company. This arrangement is far from ideal and as the club continue to perform well in the Premier League, they find themselves stuck between wanting to meet demand for tickets which far outweighs seat supply and trying to negotiate a repurchase of the stadium. The theory is that having overcome this, they would eventually redevelop. As of 2016 Bournemouth announced that redevelopment plans were on hold and they would look for a new site. |
Recent History | AFC Bournemouth have experienced the lowest lows and the highest highs within football. In 2008 they were forced into administration. With a 10 point deduction and ownership up in the air it was unsurprising that the club were relegated to League 2. In 2008/09 Bournemouth were hit with a 17 point penalty for breaking insolvency rules. Things began to improve for the club with the appointment of Eddie Howe. Despite the points deduction and the ongoing ownership soap opera, Howe lead the team to an unlikely survival. Finally in 2009, a consortium took control of the club. Howe would gain promotion to League 1, but left the club for Burnley the following season. He returned in 2012 with Bournemouth at the wrong end of the table, but again lead the team to promotion. This promotion would be tainted by a Financial Fair Play rules breach which saw the club fined. Bournemouth have held their own in the Premier League despite their limited resources. |
