Stadium | The home stadium of Eintracht Frankfurt is the Waldstadion, known for sponsorship reasons as the Commerzbank-Arena. This stadium has been in use since 1925, although it has undergone several major redevelopments since then. The most notable one was between 2002 and 2005 when the venue was gradually rebuilt to make it a football-specific venue. Its current capacity is 52,000 and it is almost always full. When looking at percentage occupancy rankings for the league as a whole, Eintracht Frankfurt are usually near the very top and they also have a strong away following. It is also quite a unique venue in the sense that it has a retractable roof. |
Recent History | Since the turn of the century, Eintracht Frankfurt have spent all but four seasons in the top division of German football. There have been three trips down to Bundesliga 2 in that time, but they’ve come back up at the very first attempt twice and at the second attempt on the other occasion. Eintracht Frankfurt haven’t won very much in their history, with no Bundesliga titles – although there was one German league championship in 1959 before the founding of the Bundesliga. There were four DFB-Pokal triumphs and a UEFA Cup across the Seventies and Eighties, but then there was a huge drought. That was, until 2017/18 when they won the DFB-Pokal again, dramatically defeating Bayern Munich in the final with coach Niko Kovač, before he then took the Bayern Munich job that summer. They followed the cup success up with a run to the Europa League semi-finals in 2018/19, their first major continental run in decades. |
