James Bree (defender, Aston Villa), Tom Lockyer (defender, Charlton, loan), Jordan Clark (midfielder, Accrington), Rhys Norrington-Davies (defender, Sheff Utd, loan)
Out
Luton stayed up against the odds last term thanks to losing just once of the nine games since Nathan Jones' return as manager.
It was not a particularly pretty end to the season but the Hatters did what they had to.
Now it appears to be a season to build on. They were especially poor in defence last term but Tom Lockyer has arrived from Charlton and he was a stand-out performer for the Addicks so should be a very useful addition.
Jones built his first spell at the club on a classy attack. They do not appear to have made any additions in that area and that department looks fairly weak although James Collins impressed last term leading the line.
Luton enjoyed success at their close-knit Kenilworth Road last term but were somewhat disappointing on the road. That is an aspect that needs improving. Jones appears to know what he is doing, having had a long affinity with the club and the right fit. He will expect to keep this club in the division and take them to new heights.
Target
Luton will believe they can finish in mid-table and well away from the relegation battle.
Season Review
2019/2020
№19:
Luton Town
Luton achieved an astonishing survival, something that did not seem possible for much of the campaign. They were not out of the bottom three at any point in 2020 until after their final day 3-2 win over Blackburn.
Graeme Jones was appointed their new manager and after an initial decent start, some poor form in December and January caused calls for him to be replaced. He survived until the season was disrupted by Covid-19 before being sacked apparently for financial reasons.
In the end Nathan Jones, the club's former manager, agreed to return. Jones is the most successful manager in the club's history and did the job, losing just one of his nine games in charge although the football was never particularly pretty.
James Collins was probably Luton's best player thanks to his 15 goals scored. Harry Cornick also impressed as did Pelly-Ruddock Mpenza while on loan. Izzy Brown was also excellent in phases.
It will be another tough campaign next season for the Hatters and it seems they will need to make a couple of decent signings in the transfer window.
