Football Season Guide

Burnley are back in the Championship for the first time since 2015 following their relegation from the Premier League last season. The Clarets ended the season under the caretaker management of Mike Jackson following the shock departure of Sean Dyche. Burnley will have a new man at the helm this season in the shape of former Manchester City defender Vincent Kompany. Kompany has been in charge at Belgian side Anderlecht for the last few seasons where he performed well but didn’t manage to secure a trophy. Unsurprisingly, following relegation from the Premier League, the close season has seen some high profile departures. England international Nick Pope has joined Newcastle while key central defenders Tarkowski and Mee have also left. The most exciting incoming is that of Scott Twine. The attacking midfielder scored 20 goals and provided 13 assists in League One for MK Dons last season. Other additions include Republic of Ireland central midfielder Cullen and England U21 international centre-back Harwood-Bellis who both played for Kompany at Anderlecht. Despite the significant departures, Burnley still have the makings of a strong squad that can compete well in the Championship. However, with Dyche having such a big influence at the club it may take time for Kompany to put his own stamp on the team.
