Rotherham bounced back at the first time of asking. After narrowly being relegated from the Championship in 2020/21 they were in the automatic promotion places for almost the whole of last season in League One, eventually finishing 2nd. The Millers, still under the guidance of Paul Warne, have lost some key players in the summer. Their two top scorers from last season, Smith (19 league goals) and Ladapo (11 league goals) have moved on. Ever-present centre-back Ihiekwe has also left the club. In their place so far have come several players with Championship experience but are mainly known for performing well in League One and have points to prove at this level. They have bolstered central defence with the signings of McCart, moving south after an impressive few years in the Scottish Premiership, and former England youth international and Manchester City youngster Humphreys. From last season’s successful squad, talented midfielders Wiles and Barlaser have been linked with moves away but for now remain at the club as does explosive winger Ogbene. Rotherham have a new look back line but will hope to repeat their defensive steal from last season when they conceded just 33 goals in 46 games, 11 less than any other League One side. It is never dull for the Millers under Warne and this season is likely to be no different as they face another battle against relegation.

Target

Staying up will be the sole aim.
