Football Season Guide

Last season was a historic one for Hull. In their first campaign back in the Championship they managed to stay up fairly comfortably but were also taken over in January by Turkish businessman Acun Ilicali. The takeover heralded the departure of Grant McCann as manager with former Rangers player Shota Arveladze taking the hot seat. A lot of business was expected at Hull over the summer and that is starting to happen. There have been some significant departures this season including the exit of dependable central midfielders Smallwood and Honeyman. However, the most notable outgoing is that of talented forward Lewis-Potter who has completed a £20 million move to Premier League side Brentford. The England U21 international was Hull’s top scorer last season with 12 goals. His loss leaves a big question of where goals and attacking threat are going to come from with the reliance on new attacking players to hit the ground running. Striker Estupinan has joined, he scored 15 goals in the Portuguese top flight last season. Hull were fairly solid in defence last season and their core players at the back remain at the club with goalkeeper Baxter rejoining on loan. Uncertainty remains with the other parts of the team and some doubts remain over Arveladze’s managerial ability in England.
