Despite an inconsistent first half of the season, Huddersfield went on to enjoy an excellent 2021-22 campaign in which they hugely overachieved to reach the playoff final, where they lost to Nottingham Forest. O'Brien and Toffolo have been lost following their excellent seasons last year, whilst the impressive Colwill has returned to Chelsea following the end of his loan spell, with the former being a huge loss in the engine room in midfield. Manager Carlos Corberan suddenly resigned as pre-season got underway to leave the Terriers in a troubled situation as preparations for the new campaign were already in motion. Inexperienced Danny Schofield has taken his first managerial role in charge of a senior side, whilst players from lower leagues have been brought in with budgets tight. A late start back to pre-season due to last season's playoffs, and a turbulent managerial change, leaves Huddersfield playing catch up as things stand. With Lee Nicholls, Matty Pearson, Tom Lees and Jonathan Hogg, Huddersfield do boast a strong spine of the team with plenty of experience and defensive know-how, whilst the likes of Danny Ward and Sorba Thomas are impressive performers at this level. However, Huddersfield hugely overachieved under Corberan and are now left with a hugely inexperienced manager that has been given little time to prepare, and must cope without O'Brien, Colwill and Toffolo.

Target

Huddersfield could easily get dragged into a relegation battle this season so a mid-table finish is probably the best that can be expected following a poor summer.
