Cuiabá had a safe run in 2023, especially after coach António Oliveira returned to the club, around the middle of the season. Cuiabá finished 12th which was their best ever season at top flight division. 2024 has been business as usual for Cuiabá, since 'Dourado' rarely have any competition in State Championship. After 13 wins, 6 draws and 0 defeats, Cuiabá won the competition for the fourth time in a row. Cuiabá is also playing international competition for the first time in their history, and drawn in first round of Sul-Americana group stage. Cuiabá will probably start the new season in Brasileiro without a defintive coach. António Oliveira was hired by stronger team Corinthians, and Dourado has been searching for a replacement for over two months, without success. For the new season, and besides the departure of club's favourite António Oliveira in dugout, Cuiabá will have to deal with the absence of key player Raniele. The versatile and strong defender/midfielder left to Corinthians as well and will be very tough to replace. On the other hand, Cuiabé brought a handful of new players that can bring them up to a better level. Midfielders Max Alves and Lucas Fernandes (this one, provided he can stay out of injuries) are great additions to the team, filling a void that the club has been having in the past seasons: creativity and passing ability in midfield. In attack, André Luís rejoined the club, while there are hopes that Derik Lacerda can step up his game and challenge the main strikers on the team, Deyverson and Clayson. Playing at home, far away all the other club venues, and in very specific weather conditions is usually one of Cuiabá's main strengths.
