Heidenheim’s coach Schmidt will start his 14th season in charge at the club, while captain Schnatterer will play his 11th campaign. All this brings calmness and stability on and off the pitch, with Heidenheim looking to possibly try and improve on good last season. A few times in recent years Heidenheim have threatened to get involved in the race for promotion, but up to now lack of depth has been the reason for failure. The situation on that front hasn’t changed much this summer, with the size of the squad pretty much similar compared to last season. The most notable departure was that of Dovedan, with Otto brought in on loan to replace him. Also last season Heidenheim had problems at left-back, in more than half of the games a player that wasn’t a typical left-back had to play in the role. To address that Fohrenbach was bought. In terms of how successful Heidenheim will be, a lot will depend on how healthy the team’s main striker Glatzel will be. Every time he was fit last season he was scoring goals with ease, but he had 2 prolonged spells of absence and in general has history of injuries. With majority of the players set to be used in the league already at the club for at least 1 year, Heidenheim are hoping to hit the ground running early as they shouldn’t have any issues with building synchrony.

Target

Heidenheim aim at another top 6 finish and, even if they look a bit short again in terms of challenging for promotion, they should be able to stay in the top half of the table all season.
