HamKam completed a brilliant campaign last season in the second division by storming to the title in the second half of the season on the back of 13 wins and three draws in the last 16 games. Kjetil Rekdal managed to solidify the team and find a system that was just too much for the rest of the teams as the Green and Whites returned to the top flight for a first time since 2008. However, Rekdal will not be around to lead the team in the Eliteserien as he accepted the offer to take over Rosenborg and that leaves HamKam with a new coach at the start of this adventure. Danish Jacob Michelsen is the man taking over and he has good experience with Odense. That said, there is certainly some apprehension among the fans as to whether he can hit the ground running and make HamKam a a viable team in the league. They have brought in some decent new attacking options in Yuri Yakovenko and Pål Kirkevold but did lose an important player in USA defender Sam Rogers, who was a big revelation in the second half of last season. The other imprint departure is Rasmussen Lindkvist. Overall, the squad looks pretty much on par with most of the bottom-half teams in the league and they seem capable of channeling the momentum from last season's promotion and going on to have a successful campaign. Yet a lot of that will depend on keeping hold of key midfielder Kristian Eriksen, who is coveted by Rekdal and Rosenborg.
