Jahn Regensburg were one of the surprise packets last season ending the season in a very respectable fifth place. Recreating that could well be tough for a side who operate on a budget far smaller than some sides in the league. Considering their more minor reputation they have compared to many of the frontrunners in the division, the club have managed to retain many of the stars of last season. The one area which has changed significantly since last season is at centre back where both Marvin Knoll and Benedickt Gimber have left. Marcel Correia will be one player to replace the departed centre backs, but the spot of being his partner is very much up for grabs. The coach has a choice of 5 options including new signings Dominic Volkmer and Ali Odabas. Aside from a few younger players brought in from lower league sides or on loan, the most noteworthy player to join is attacking midfielder Julian-Maurice Derstroff from fellow second division side Sandhausen. He will aim to add to an attack which centres around captain Marco Grüttner who had a fine season last term with 13 goals. Objectively seen Regensburg have a very tough task ahead of them this season. Their squad is made up of players cast off by other sides and without any real star players. But Regensburg are very much a side whose whole is far more than the sum of their parts. They are a hard working who fully trust coach Achim Beierlorzer who returns for another season. Just like last season Jahn will first aim for make sure of their survival. But just like last term they have the chance to achieve more than mere survival. A midtable spot is very much possible for a team who punch far above their own weight.

Target

Jahn will aim to stay in the league first of all, but could well secure a mid table spot.
